A Chinese energy company China Power Investment Corporation has identified four energy projects in Pakistan for immediate investment. One project is 300 MW solar energy plant; another project would generate 500 to 1,000 MW from wind. The other two would be coal fired plants each of 900 MW capacity. However, the company wants the government to first approve the tariff. Company’s Vice President Zhiyig Wang had visited Islamabad with a 15 member delegation (early August) and discussed his proposal with officials of Ministry of Water and Power, Board of Investment (BoI) and the Planning Commission.
The solar project would be based in Bahawalpur. Site for wind power project would be selected by federal government. The Chinese corporation is one of the five largest state owned power companies in China. It supplies 10% of power to China and its capacity was 80,074 MW at end of 2012. The company also runs an aluminium plant, a railway service and a port.
